Grok Pricing 2026: X Subscription Plans, SuperGrok and API Costs

Grok is free to start. Since October 12, 2026, new customers pay for Grok through The X Subscription: Plus costs $8 a month, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200, or $80, $300, $1,000 and $2,000 a year (x.ai/pricing and docs.x.ai, October 25, 2026). Each plan bundles Grok, Cursor and X Premium benefits with one weekly usage pool; Premium gives 4x the usage of Plus, Super 15x and Ultra 50x. The older SuperGrok plans ($10 to $300 a month) keep running for existing subscribers. The xAI API is billed separately per token, from $1.00 per million input tokens for Grok Build 0.1 to $2.00 input and $6.00 output for Grok 4.7.

This guide lists every way to pay for Grok as of October 2026: what each X Subscription plan costs per month and per year, what it includes, how the shared weekly pool works, what happened to SuperGrok, SuperGrok Heavy and X Premium, and what the API charges per model. xAI, which now publishes as SpaceXSI, announced The X Subscription on October 12, 2026 and rolled it out globally over the following days, so any Grok price list written before mid October is out of date. How Much Does Grok Cost? Every Plan and Price

Grok has one free plan and four paid X Subscription plans from $8 to $200 a month, plus Teams and Enterprise. The table lists the USD list prices on xAI's pricing documentation and x.ai/pricing on October 25, 2026. Annual prices are billed once per year; the figure in brackets is xAI's per-month equivalent. Prices exclude tax, and the checkout in your country can show local currency.

Paying yearly works out to ten months' price for twelve months on every paid tier: Premium costs $360 over a year when billed monthly and $300 when billed annually, a $60 saving, and the same switch saves $400 on Ultra. When we checked, grok.com also showed introductory offers of 50% off the first month on Premium, Super and Ultra; offers change, so read the checkout screen before you confirm.

What Each Grok Plan Includes

The jump that matters most is from Plus to Premium: Premium is the first plan with Grok Bot and video generation, and it carries four times the usage. This matrix reproduces the Grok and X rows of xAI's own "Compare features" table on x.ai/pricing, read on October 25, 2026.

• Plus is what xAI recommends for "social creators with limited AI usage." It has the full Grok app at base usage and the X checkmark, but no Grok Bot and no video.
• Premium is the tier xAI marks "Most popular" and recommends for new AI users. xAI's announcement describes it as "the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+, previously $90/month combined."
• Super is recommended for daily agent users: 15x the Plus pool, 1080p video and priority access when Grok is busy.
• Ultra is recommended for power users: 50x the Plus pool, the most powerful Chat models and the earliest access to new products and models.

Grok 4.7, released on September 21, 2026, is xAI's newest model and is available in the API, Cursor and Grok Build. The new plan pages name "Latest Grok models" as a Premium benefit but do not list a model per tier, so this guide does not either. What Happened to SuperGrok and SuperGrok Heavy?

Nothing changes for current SuperGrok subscribers: xAI says existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium plans continue at the same price and features unless you switch or cancel, while new customers start on The X Subscription. Before October 12, 2026, xAI sold SuperGrok Lite at $10 a month, SuperGrok at $30, SuperGrok Plus at $100 and SuperGrok Heavy at $300, with annual billing at ten months' price. Those plans are no longer offered to new subscribers.

• Switching is optional and permanent. xAI's documentation says a completed switch "can't be undone, and Support can't undo it for you."
• Your old plan is refunded pro rata. When you switch on the web, eligible SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium plans are cancelled at checkout and the unused time is refunded to the original payment method, separately from the new charge.
• App store purchases need a check. xAI cancels Grok, Grok Bot and X Premium bought through the Apple App Store and asks Apple to refund the unused time, and Apple decides. Purchases through Google Play must be checked in Google Play and cancelled there if they are still set to renew.
• Switch on the web. xAI says switching in the mobile apps "isn't available yet"; start at accounts.x.ai/unify for Grok or X, or cursor.com/unify if you pay for Cursor.

Which tier replaces yours is a judgment call, because xAI states usage in multiples of Plus rather than in the units SuperGrok used. xAI's own comparison is that "each comparable new tier provides more usage-per-dollar than the plan it replaces," and that Premium at $30 carries the SuperGrok benefits.

Does X Premium Include Grok?

X Premium is now part of The X Subscription: every paid plan includes X Premium benefits on the personal X account you connect, and Premium, Super and Ultra include full X Premium+ benefits. The X Help Center says that if you already subscribe to X Premium, "your plan, price, and features stay the same until you choose to switch."

If you pay for X Premium+ today, xAI advises choosing Premium or higher to keep those benefits. Only personal X accounts can be connected; organization and affiliate accounts cannot. How Grok Usage Limits Work on Paid Plans

Each paid seat gets one weekly usage pool shared across Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice, Grok Bot and Cursor, instead of separate quotas per product. xAI's pricing FAQ says "your allowance refreshes weekly, so one heavy day never wipes out your whole month," and that usage costs vary by product: a chat message draws little from the pool, a long video or coding task far more.

• Where to check it: the Usage view in Settings on grok.com or the apps, or Usage on grok.com/dashboard once you are on The X Subscription. It shows the percentage used, a breakdown by product and your next reset.
• When you hit the limit: paid features pause until the weekly reset. xAI's Grok FAQ says the free tier limits on Chat and Voice still work, because they reset on their own schedule.
• Top-ups: prepaid credits pay for usage beyond the pool, and xAI's FAQ says they cost more per action than included usage. A monthly spending cap can stop extra usage even while credit remains.
• API calls are separate: paid plans include Grok API access, but xAI says API usage "is billed separately at standard model rates and doesn't draw from your plan's usage pool."

Grok API Pricing per Model

The xAI API has no subscription: you pay per million tokens, and rates depend on the model and on whether a prompt crosses 200K tokens. These are xAI's published text model rates from docs.x.ai/developers/pricing, checked on October 25, 2026, in USD per 1M tokens.

Once a prompt reaches the 200K threshold, xAI bills every token in that request at the long context rate, not only the tokens above 200K. Worked from the published rates: a request with 100K input tokens and 5K output tokens costs about $0.23 on grok-4.7 or grok-4.6 and about $0.14 on grok-4.3, while a 250K-token prompt with the same output costs about $1.06 on grok-4.7. Grok 4.7 Fast, the same model on faster infrastructure, costs twice the standard rates (1.5x for long context requests) and is offered only in Cursor and Grok Build, not on the public API. Requests sent to xAI's US regional endpoint, which serves grok-4.7 and grok-4.6, are billed at 1.1x the global rates.

• Batch API: 20% off every token type for grok-4.7, grok-4.6, grok-4.5, grok-4.3 and the three grok-4.20 models, with most batches completed within 24 hours. grok-build-0.1 has no batch discount.
• Priority Processing: 2x standard rates on every token type, billed only when the response confirms the priority tier.
• Server-side tools: $5 per 1,000 calls for Web Search, Code Execution and attachment search, and $2.50 for Collections Search, plus the tokens used. X Search is billed per item fetched: $5 per 1,000 posts and $10 per 1,000 user profiles.
• Imagine: grok-imagine-image-2.0 costs $0.04 to $0.08 per image depending on resolution and quality, and grok-imagine-image $0.02. grok-imagine-video-1.5 costs $0.08 per second at 480p, $0.14 at 720p and $0.25 at 1080p; grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite costs $0.02, $0.03 and $0.14. grok-imagine-image-quality is retired on November 2, 2026, after which requests to it are served by grok-imagine-image-2.0 at low quality.
• Voice: speech to speech (grok-voice-3.0) is $0.08 per minute, text to speech $15 per 1M characters, and speech to text $0.10 per hour (REST) or $0.20 per hour (streaming).

Grok Subscription vs xAI API: Which One Do You Pay For?

An X Subscription plan pays for using Grok in the apps, on grok.com, on X and in Cursor; the xAI API pays for calling Grok models from your own code. Paid plans include API access, but API calls are billed per token at standard rates and do not draw from your weekly pool.

Which Grok Plan Should You Choose?

Start on Free and upgrade only when a specific limit gets in your way; xAI itself recommends Premium for new AI users. The tier that fits depends on what you run into first.

• Occasional users and students: Free covers everyday questions. Plus at $8 a month is the step up if you mainly want more chat on X and the checkmark.
• Writers, analysts and researchers using Grok daily: Premium at $30 a month, or $300 a year, gives 4x the Plus pool, Grok Bot for background jobs and video generation.
• Video creators and people running agents every day: Super at $100 is the first tier with 1080p video and priority access at peak times.
• Heavy coders and power users: Ultra at $200 for the largest individual pool, or the API if the work runs in your own code.
• Current SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscribers: you do not have to do anything. Compare your renewal price with the tier you would switch to before you unify, because the switch cannot be undone.
• Teams of two or more: Premium, Super or Ultra seats at the individual prices, with each seat keeping its own weekly pool.
• Developers on a budget: grok-4.3 at $1.25 / $2.50 with the 20% batch discount, or grok-build-0.1 for coding.

How to Cancel a Grok Plan or Request a Refund

Cancel where you subscribed: on grok.com/dashboard under Billing and invoices for The X Subscription on the web, in X for a plan bought on X, in Apple's Subscriptions settings for the iOS app, and in Google Play for Android. xAI's terms say a plan renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, and it stays active through the end of the period you paid for.

• Refunds: xAI's Bundled Subscription Terms say payments are final except where the law requires otherwise. Consumers in Europe can withdraw within 14 days, and the terms give 7 days in Brazil, Mexico and South Korea and 5 days in Taiwan.
• Older SuperGrok plans: manage them at grok.com/?_s=billing. xAI's FAQ routes web and Google Play refund requests through its refund form, with approved refunds typically arriving in 5 to 10 business days.
• App Store purchases are cancelled and refunded through Apple.

What No Grok Plan Adds: Organizing Your Chat History

None of the rows on xAI's plan comparison are about organizing past conversations: there is no row for folders, full-text search across chats, or exporting chats to files, on any tier from Free to Ultra. AI Toolbox (formerly ChatGPT Toolbox) is a Chrome extension that adds those tools inside Grok on both x.com/i/grok and grok.com, and it works the same on every Grok plan. It is a separate product with its own free plan; it does not include or change your Grok subscription.

The Grok module links a purchase to your X handle rather than an email address, because Grok on x.com does not expose one, so enter the handle you use with Grok at checkout. Limitations and What xAI's Own Plans Do Well

xAI's pricing is unusually transparent on the API side and on billing rules, and deliberately relative on consumer usage. The API page publishes exact per-token, cached, long context, batch and tool rates, and the X Subscription documentation explains switching, refunds, top-ups and spending caps clearly. What xAI does not publish is how large each plan's weekly pool is, so "4x Plus" cannot be converted into a message count, and nobody outside xAI can tell you exactly when a Premium user will hit the limit.

Two more caveats. Prices are the USD list prices shown on October 25, 2026; taxes apply on top, and checkout can show local pricing and limited-time offers. And xAI changed its whole consumer lineup in October 2026, after adding SuperGrok Lite and SuperGrok Plus earlier in the year, so check x.ai/pricing before you commit to an annual plan. Nothing in AI Toolbox changes what Grok costs or what your Grok plan allows.

Does AI Toolbox cost extra on top of Grok?

AI Toolbox is a separate Chrome extension with its own free plan, and it works on every Grok plan. Premium for the Grok module is $9.99 a month or $99 lifetime, and All Access unlocks all four AI Toolbox modules for $199 once. It is not a Grok subscription, and your Grok plan stays the same.
