Find in chat, a mark on every AI Toolbox menu item, and Claude usage figures from Claude itself

  • Find in chat (all four assistants): a find bar for the conversation you have open, with a match count, Enter for the next match and Shift+Enter for the previous. It searches the whole chat, including the parts of a long chat the page has not loaded, which the browser's Ctrl+F misses, and takes you to the message. Upper and lower case and accents are ignored. Open it from the Command Palette on ChatGPT, from the AI Toolbox list on Claude, Gemini and Grok, or with Alt+Shift+F (Option+Shift+F on Mac). Free. Suggested by a user who wanted the simple thing rather than the powerful one.
  • The AI Toolbox mark: every item AI Toolbox adds to an assistant's own menus now ends with a small toolbox mark, so our Export or Add to folder can be told apart from the assistant's own entries with similar names. On all four assistants. Suggested by a user who found two Add to folder entries in one menu.
  • Claude's own usage figures: on Claude, including free accounts, the Plan usage window and the usage bar under the message box now show Claude's real session and weekly percentages and Claude's exact reset times, taken from Claude's replies in your browser. The reply text itself is never kept.
  • Step-by-step tutorials from inside the extension: the toolbar popup, the ChatGPT Guides tab, the Command Palette (type help or tutorial), the end of the first-run tour, the features window on Claude, Gemini and Grok, and the upgrade window now link to the tutorials on our website. The Claude, Gemini and Grok welcome banner is now in your language.
Improved
  • The Context Window Meter on Claude now counts what Claude actually carries forward: artifacts, files Claude read, attachments and images, not only the message text, and only the branch of the chat you are on. Its estimate of tokens per character was rebuilt against Anthropic's own counter and is now much closer for English, code and other languages. Switching models recounts the chat.
  • Claude context windows were re-checked against Anthropic's help centre: Haiku 5.5 now shows its 1M window on paid plans.
  • On ChatGPT, chats inside a Project now get everything ordinary chats get: Move to Folder, Export, Pin to AI Toolbox and Tag in the menu at the top of the chat, Export This Chat in the Command Palette, Collapse buttons, and the folder tree marking the open chat.
  • On Grok, AI Toolbox now appears on project pages, and Export this chat, bookmarks and the Context Window Meter work in chats opened inside a project.
  • Upgrade buttons on Claude, Gemini and Grok now open that assistant's plans on the pricing page, instead of the ChatGPT plans. The upgrade window also links to the one-time Lifetime and All Access plans.
  • When AI Toolbox cannot check your plan, the plan label now says Retry instead of showing a loading dot forever, and clicking it checks again.
Fixed
  • On some ChatGPT setups the buttons on messages (Bookmark, Add label, Download as MP3, Collapse) and in the chat header (All Labels, Bookmarks, Right to left, Collapse All) never appeared, while the rest of AI Toolbox did.
  • On some ChatGPT versions none of AI Toolbox's items appeared in the menu at the top of a chat, because ChatGPT had removed the names we found that menu by. The menu is now also found by its position and shape.
  • On Claude, tabs opened within a few minutes of each other could show no bookmark buttons on messages and no Bookmarks button in the header.
  • On Grok, clicking a bookmark or a search result opened the chat but did not scroll to the message.
  • Chats deleted from Manage Chats could stay listed, and deleting them again seemed to hang with no message. Deleting a chat that is already gone now simply removes it, and a failed delete or archive now says so.
  • A Lifetime user could see the free plan's 5-chat limit in Manage Chats while the plan label said Lifetime.
  • On ChatGPT layouts without the usual message box, such as some work accounts, Continue in a fresh chat could open an empty chat and lose the summary.

Move the toolbox button anywhere, a plan label that names your plan, and one free chat export from every list

New
  • Drag the toolbox button anywhere (all four assistants): the button moves together with your plan label, the Context Window Meter and, on ChatGPT, the ring of quick-access buttons, and wherever you drop it they open toward the middle of the screen so nothing ends up off the edge. The position is kept for each site, and dropping the button back in its corner restores the original layout. Suggested by a user who wanted it on the other side of the page.
  • The plan label now names your plan: the small label above the toolbox button reads Free, Monthly, Annual, Lifetime or Team instead of FREE or PRO, because three of the four assistants call one of their own plans Pro and a Gemini Pro subscriber on our free plan saw both a few inches apart. Hovering it spells it out, as in AI Toolbox plan: Lifetime.
  • Export This Chat (ChatGPT): a new entry in the toolbox dashboard exports the chat you have open. It does not depend on ChatGPT's own menus, so a ChatGPT redesign cannot take it away. On the free plan it saves the chat as a text file; other formats are Premium.
  • One chat as text is free from every list (all four assistants): the free plan's single-chat text export now also works from Manage Chats, folders, projects, search results and Smart Tags, not only from inside the chat. Select one chat and choose Text.
  • Delete up to 5 chats at a time on the free plan on Claude, Gemini and Grok, the same as on ChatGPT. Before, bulk delete there needed Premium at any count. Premium has no limit.
  • Claude personal and Team organizations kept apart: a login with both now gets separate search, chat lists, Smart Tags, Artifact Vault, bookmarks and folders for each organization, and AI Toolbox follows you when you switch, without reloading the page. Your saved prompts and chains stay available in both. A login with one organization works exactly as before.
  • Export one Grok chat: Export this chat in the features window, an Export item in each grok.com chat's menu, and an export button on every row of Manage Chats on both grok.com and x.com. Text is free; Markdown, JSON and PDF are Premium.
  • Export from ChatGPT's conversation header: the "..." menu at the top of an open chat now has Export beside Move, Pin and Tag, so a chat opened from search can be exported without finding it in the sidebar.
  • Describe what you want in the Command Palette: type a plain request such as "how do I delete all my chats", in any of the 12 supported languages, and it finds the right tool. Filler words, plurals, accents and the everyday word for a task (borrar as well as eliminar) no longer lead to an empty list.
  • Add to Folder or Move to Folder: the folder picker has a switch with both actions. Add keeps the chat where it is and files it somewhere else as well; Move takes it out of its current folders as it files it. On all four assistants.
  • Copy a saved prompt: saved prompts and the Prompt Library have a copy button, for pasting a prompt anywhere the // shortcut does not reach. On all four assistants.
  • Name the steps of a prompt chain: each step can carry a short name of your own, shown while you build the chain, before a run and while that step runs. On all four assistants.
  • Your cross-platform folders in the folder tree: the tree beside your chats has an All platforms view showing your folders across all four assistants, kept in sync with each site's own folders in both directions. Each chat still opens on its own platform. Part of Premium.
  • My Artifacts on Claude: select artifacts and export them as one ZIP of real files arranged by project and chat, and filter the vault by project and by chat. Bulk export is part of Premium.
  • When adding GPTs to a folder, the picker marks the ones the folder already holds.
Improved
  • Search results on Grok open on the matching message instead of at the top of the chat.
  • On ChatGPT, the toolbox button and everything attached to it move up out of the way when the message box stretches into the bottom-right corner, so they no longer cover the send button.
  • Bookmarks in a long ChatGPT chat: the This chat tab now lists every bookmark in the chat, not only the ones on screen, and jumping to an older one scrolls the chat until the message is loaded.
  • A purchase made in another tab is picked up when you return to ChatGPT, instead of the plan reading Free until you reload.
  • A single chat can now hold your whole bookmark and label allowance, and when a chat is full the message says so instead of a generic error. Reported by a subscriber writing a book in one long chat.
  • The Context Window Meter recognises a reasoning chat even when ChatGPT no longer shows the model's name, so it measures against the right window.
  • Ctrl+K and Cmd+K open the dashboard reliably, including while one of ChatGPT's own windows is open.
  • New installs start with five useful buttons in the quick-access ring, and the first-run tour says what AI Toolbox does and what to type into the Command Palette.
  • Manage Chats opens faster on large histories, because listing chats no longer reads every message, and opening any window builds only that window.
Fixed
  • For several days in late September every ChatGPT page load made every other open ChatGPT tab reload its settings from our servers, which slowed AI Toolbox down for everyone. Fixed in the extension and on the server.
  • Export could disappear from ChatGPT's chat menus after ChatGPT changed its markup, and on some setups every AI Toolbox item in those menus vanished at once.
  • The export window's format buttons looked impossible to choose in dark mode.
  • Folder names showed white on ChatGPT's white sidebar, and folders and the Smart Tags header looked greyed out, which a Lifetime user took for a locked plan.
  • In Manage Chats, Select All could show ticked boxes beside "Selected chats: 0", select only the first 20 chats, or lose the selection when another ChatGPT tab loaded, and Export then did nothing. AI Toolbox's panels could also turn dark on a light ChatGPT.
  • After signing in to a different ChatGPT account, the previous account's folders could still show, and the All platforms folders could carry one account's chats into another. Folders already affected are repaired automatically.
  • Personal ChatGPT accounts could see 0 chats or miss recent chats in Manage Chats, a ChatGPT Business account could index nothing so search found nothing, and the sidebar panels were not found on Business and non-English layouts.
  • Indexing stopped whenever ChatGPT's sidebar could not be found, the "Show Smart Tags in the sidebar" switch did not hide the panel, and "Put back in the sidebar" moved a panel the wrong way.
  • When the floating window opened by itself after a ChatGPT sidebar change, it could not be closed.
  • Export project was missing from the project menu in ChatGPT's newer sidebar.
  • A ChatGPT tab could use 100% of a CPU core and over a gigabyte of memory when the sidebar could not be found, even with every feature switched off.

Stop a long export and keep what is done, hide the context meter, and a free look at cross-platform search

New
  • Cross-platform search for free users: instead of an upgrade prompt, a search across all your assistants now shows the 5 newest matches, with a line per assistant saying how many more there are. Premium shows every match.
  • Turn the Context Window Meter off (all four assistants), for anyone who never thinks about the context window and does not want a number in the corner of every page.
  • Remove the Smart Tags panel from ChatGPT's sidebar. Your tags keep working and stay reachable from the toolbox button and the Command Palette.
  • Titles only, next to the search box (ChatGPT): matching chat titles rather than every message is now one click beside the search field instead of a switch inside the Advanced panel. Part of Premium search.
  • The // and .. lists now show every saved prompt and chain, and find one by any word in its text, not only its name (all four assistants).
  • A close button on the floating window puts every detached panel back in the sidebar in one click.
Improved
  • Long exports say why they are waiting, for example while an assistant is limiting requests, and can be stopped without losing the chats already exported. Folder and project exports now show their progress too.
  • Exports keep what you wrote: numbered and bulleted lists, tables and links come through in text and JSON exports exactly as in the chat, instead of being stripped.
  • Very long conversations export as a real PDF on our server, and the in-browser fallback can no longer grow until it exhausts the computer's memory.
  • The findings export no longer cuts long answers short.
  • The Context Window Meter takes ChatGPT's window sizes from OpenAI's own published figures, and its Auto setting reads your plan from ChatGPT instead of guessing it from the model name.
  • The toolbox button, the Context Window Meter and the folder tree appear only on the pages where they are useful, not on settings or sign-in pages.
  • Gemini's search page controls work on the redesigned page, and the Gemini usage badge is readable on a dark theme.
Fixed
  • ChatGPT Projects could disappear from Manage Chats on large accounts, because a throttled read looked like an empty project.
  • Manage Chats could keep Export, Delete and Archive greyed out with chats selected.
  • Opening a ChatGPT Project from an AI Toolbox folder showed ChatGPT's "Try again" page, ticking a Project's checkbox opened it instead of selecting it, and a Project added to a folder did not appear in the sidebar until a reload.
  • Adding several GPTs to a folder could silently save only some of them.
  • Folders on some personal ChatGPT accounts were split into two sets; fixed on our server, so both sets show together.
  • ChatGPT indexing could stop for good with "One of the specified object stores was not found".

Dates on every message, a date range for search, and your usage beside the message box

New
  • Narrow a search to a date range: Advanced Search takes a start and end date of your choosing, on all four assistants and in cross-platform search.
  • Dates on every message: each message now carries its own date and time, in your time zone, in exports and in search results, so a passage in a long-running chat can be placed in time.
  • Every export states the conversation's size: characters, words and messages, beside the dates.
  • Your usage beside the message box on Claude and Gemini, so you see it before starting a long piece of work. On Claude it names the limit closest to running out and when it resets.
  • Searching in Move to Folder now finds the folders filed under the one you type, shown with their full path.
  • Tagging with fewer steps on ChatGPT: Tag is in each chat's sidebar menu, so a chat can be tagged without opening it, several tags can be typed at once separated by commas, and tag colours can be switched off under Settings, Smart Tags.
Improved
  • The Context Window Meter reads the whole conversation, so the same chat shows the same figure on every computer. Its window sizes were re-checked, including Gemini's 32K free window.
  • ChatGPT's free and Go plans are no longer shown a message cap in the usage tracker, since ChatGPT made them unlimited.
  • AI Toolbox no longer flickers in and out while a ChatGPT page is loading.
  • The //, .., ## and @@ lists stay inside the window on short screens.
Fixed
  • The folder tree could say "No folders yet" on an account that had folders.
  • Clicking a bookmark on Claude did nothing until you had scrolled to the message yourself; it now scrolls there, and says so if the message cannot be reached.
  • The open toolbox ring blocked ChatGPT's own controls underneath it.
  • Manage Chats stopped loading part way when project groups were collapsed, showing 67 of 958 chats for the customer who reported it.
  • A renamed ChatGPT chat kept its old name inside folders and in search, and deleting a Claude, Gemini or Grok chat left it listed in its folders.
  • AI Toolbox appeared over Claude Code and Claude incognito chats.
  • Dismissing an upgrade prompt also closed the window behind it, losing your selection, in eight places on Claude, Gemini and Grok.
  • Chats inside folders could stay on "Loading..." forever.
  • AI Toolbox's buttons in Claude's top bar looked too much like Claude's own Share button.

Turn indexing down, see your Claude usage, and announcements that arrive without an update

New
  • Turn background indexing down or off (ChatGPT): a three-way control under Settings, Data and Storage. Normal indexes as you browse, which is what it has always done. Reduced indexes at most every ten minutes and skips the weekly whole-history check. Paused stops background indexing entirely, and search, folders and tags keep working on everything already indexed. Added because a customer hit ChatGPT's own "You're making requests too quickly" limit and asked how to turn ours down, and there was no answer. Reduced is the one most people want.
  • See your Claude usage on a free plan: Claude's own usage figures are empty for free accounts and its usage page sends you to checkout, so there was nothing to show. AI Toolbox now counts your sends on your own device and shows messages sent this session and over the last seven days, with a bar for how far through Claude's five-hour session window you are. It records only that a message was sent, never what you wrote, and shows no percentage, because the underlying allowance is not published.
  • Cached conversations and last sync time now appear in Settings on Claude, Gemini and Grok, not only on ChatGPT.
  • Announcements can now reach you without waiting for a store update, so anything time-sensitive arrives when it is actually relevant instead of a review cycle later.
Improved
  • The sync status line says Rate limited when the assistant is throttling us, instead of reporting Synced as though nothing were wrong.
  • Bulk PDF exports pace themselves against the render service, so large batches finish on the fast server path instead of dropping to the slower in-browser fallback partway through.
Fixed
  • A long sync could undo an archive you made while it was still running.
  • Carrying a chat forward could fail silently, and a conversation that simply had not been indexed yet was reported as empty rather than as not ready.
  • Claude free accounts lost their usage bars whenever the account could not be identified, because anything not positively known to be free was treated as paid.
  • AI Toolbox appeared on claude.ai/login, where there is no conversation to act on.
  • The Claude bookmark button disappeared when you hovered over a message, after Claude changed its message toolbar.
  • The daily streak counted activity across all of x.com rather than only Grok.

Cross-platform search export, prompts kept on your device, and a movable panel

  • Export from cross-platform search: the "Search all platforms" view now exports every chat a query matched as a single ZIP, shaped exactly like a bulk export from Manage Chats. One search across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok leaves as one archive instead of four separate trips.
  • Findings export (all 4 platforms): export the passages that matched your search instead of the whole conversations holding them. Every matching passage carries enough of the exchange around it to read on its own, including the assistant's reply. Markdown and TXT.
  • Keep your Prompt Library on this device: a setting under Settings, Prompts that stores your saved prompts and prompt chains on your own machine instead of our servers, with syncing across devices as something you turn on rather than a condition of using the library.
  • Put our panels where you want them: your folder tree, plus Pinned Folders, Pinned Chats, and Smart Tags on ChatGPT, can each be moved out of the assistant's sidebar into a floating window you drag, resize, and keep across sessions. Staying in the sidebar remains the default. A panel that cannot find its place in the sidebar now moves itself out instead of not appearing at all, and moves back once the sidebar is usable again.
  • Carry a chat forward from its own three-dot menu, on any chat in the sidebar, instead of only the conversation you currently have open.
  • Hide filed chats on Claude, Gemini, and grok.com: the ChatGPT sidebar-declutter option now runs on the other three platforms. Hidden chats stay in their folders, still turn up in search, and the conversation you have open is never hidden.

  • The ChatGPT folder and project picker opens immediately on large accounts: it no longer reads every message of every conversation just to draw a list of titles.
Fixed
  • Gemini's August menu redesign removed all four AI Toolbox items from the conversation three-dot menu; restored.
  • Long Gemini conversations exported only their first stretch of messages, because Gemini returns a conversation one page at a time and only the first page was being read.
  • The folder tree could vanish from the sidebar and come back on its own, on all four platforms.
  • The floating panel did not render on Claude, Gemini, or Grok.
  • Carrying a chat from ChatGPT into a new ChatGPT chat sent the summary on its own and then pasted it a second time.

  • Deep Import (ChatGPT): recovers the full history on very large accounts where ChatGPT's own sync stops early: the extension walks your account history and fills in every missing conversation, resumable if the tab closes.

  • Streamed exports for huge libraries (all 4 platforms + Media Gallery): bulk, folder, and image exports now stream straight into the ZIP as each item is ready, so multi-GB backups with thousands of chats or images finish reliably.   • Sync safety guard for very large accounts: when ChatGPT's or Grok's servers return an incomplete chat list, the missing chats are no longer treated as deleted; your locally indexed history is preserved.

How updates work

Install once, get every release

AI Toolbox is one extension with four togglable modules. A release updates all of them at once, through the store, on the free plan as well as Premium.

Most entries above exist because one of the four platforms changed something: a menu moved, a toolbar was redesigned, a sync endpoint started returning partial lists. Update questions people actually ask

How often is AI Toolbox updated?

Several times a month across the four modules. Larger features ship roughly monthly; fixes and platform adaptations (for example when ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Grok changes its interface) ship as soon as they are ready and pass Chrome Web Store review.

Do I need to do anything to get an update?

No. Chromium browsers update installed extensions from the Chrome Web Store automatically, usually within a few hours of a release going live. If you want it immediately, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode and click Update.

Which version am I on?

Open chrome://extensions (or your browser's equivalent) and read the version under AI Toolbox. The newest release on this page is v5.0.52 to v5.0.54 from Early to mid-October 2026.

Why did a feature disappear after a platform update?

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Grok change their interfaces without notice, and a change can hide a button the extension attaches to. Those breakages are fixed in the next release; the Fixed lists on this page record them, for example the Gemini menu items restored in mid-August 2026.

Is the changelog the same as the roadmap?

No. This page records what has shipped. The roadmap page lists what is planned, in progress and recently shipped, and is where to look for features that are not here yet.

Where did ChatGPT Toolbox go?

It became AI Toolbox in April 2026 (v5.0.0). Same extension, same account and data; the rebrand added the Gemini, Claude and Grok modules as toggles in one install. Anything that referred to ChatGPT Toolbox still applies to the ChatGPT module.

Do updates cost anything?

No. Every release goes to free and Premium users alike; Premium ($9.99/month or $99 once per module) unlocks limits and features, not updates. Lifetime includes all future updates.
